VUCX is supporting the rebuilding of primary school „No-Moscow“ in Qunu, South Africa. The project was intitiated by former president and Nobel prize winner Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela together with the Lyoness Child & Family foundation.
At their Annual Meeting in Vienna with 11,000 participants the worlds biggest shopping community Lyoness had organised an auction for the benefit of the Lyoness Child & Family Foundation.
The object of desire was a hand-signed framed image of Nelson Mandela, which had been taken during the latest visit at the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate in July 2012.
For two years this is the only official document signed by him. Since the 2010 Soccer World Cup Mandela has retired from public life due to health issues. The exceptional circumstances of the picture and the additional rare collection of votive medals make the portrait a real unique collectible.
Due to this the auction drew a lot of attention amongst potential bidders. To make it even more thrilling the bidders only had exactly six minutes and 40 seconds time to make their bids. The time was a reminiscence to the prison number (prisoner number 466 of 1964) given to Nelson Mandela when he was incarcerated for life on Robben Island.
The auction was indeed a real thriller, as already after three minutes the bids went over 30 000 Euro, and in the end two bidders were in the final duel. Finally the highest bid came from Germany – Ercin Filizli, producer of the film „All about Lyoness“ had the winning bid.
Filizli: „With this auction purchase the team of VUCX wants to contribute something to this remarkable project in Qunu.“
Managing Director Erçin Filizli (VUCX) was invited to attend the new opening of the school in Qunu. „I’m looking forward to this exceptional experience.“
